The Church Will Stand
December 28, 2014
“…on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew
What is church growth dependent on?
Jesus, while talking with his disciples, clearly states, “I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH.” Christ is the master architect of the church. We, as a body of believers, are called to be faithful carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and roofers following the master craftsman’s blueprint.
What Christ promises he fulfills. Consider all the prophecies about Christ found in the Old Testament and their fulfillment in the New Testament. God told Adam and Eve that if they ate of the tree of good and evil they would die. They ate of the tree and they died spiritually. Noah told the world that a flood was coming because of their great sin, and for 120 years he built the ark. The entire earth was flooded as promised, holding true God’s warning. Christ said He will build the church, we can trust that He will build the church.
Knowing that Christ will build the church is such a relief. It is not dependent on me, nor is church growth dependent on you. Christ is the one building the church. Jonathan Edwards was not a hip pastor, but many people came to faith as a result of his ministry. He was not known for being a great speaker, yet lives were changed. Jonah was not such a skilled preacher that he was able persuade all of Nivinah, a city that took 3 days to walk across, to repent in 40 days, yet they did repent.
Christ builds his church, his way and at his time. He calls us to be faithful.

Please pray Paul’s prayer for
from Ephesians 3:14-21 (NLT) for West Center Baptist
"When I think of the wisdom and the scope of God’s plan,
I fall to my knees and pray to the Father,
the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.
I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources
He will give you mighty inner strength through His Holy Spirit.
And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home
in your hearts
as you trust in Him.
May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love.
And may you have the power to understand,
as all God’s people should,
how wide, how long, how high,
and how deep His love really is.
May you experience the love of Christ,
though it is so great you will never fully understand it.
Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Now glory be to God!
By His mighty power at work within us,
He is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope.
May He be given glory in the church and in Christ Jesus
forever and ever through endless ages.
